Dietrich Urbach

Dietrich "Dieter" Urbach (born February 2, 1935 in Hagen ) is a former German athlete who was five times German champion in the shot put from 1960 to 1964 .

Dietrich Urbach began his sporting career as a swimmer and gymnast before joining athletics. Until 1956 he competed for VfL Bochum , from 1957 he started for TSV 1860 Munich . Urbach achieved a placement among the top three shot putters at ten German championships from 1955 to 1964 ; in addition to his championship titles from 1960 to 1964 , he was runner- up from 1956 to 1958 , and in 1955 and 1959 he took third place. From 1962 to 1964 Urbach won three more championship titles in the hall, in 1956, 1961 and 1963 Urbach was also German runner-up in the discus throw .

Urbach was able to qualify for the all-German team at international championships three times . In ninth place at the 1958 European Championships , seventh at the 1960 Olympic Games and seventh at the 1962 European Championships , he missed the finals of the six best athletes. Urbach was the first German shot putter to exceed the 18-meter line in 1961, three years later the 1.95 m tall Urbach hit his best of 19.09 m, making it the first German to surpass the 19-meter line.

Urbach was a qualified sports teacher and headed the Grünwald sports school from 1963 to 1965. Urbach later completed a second degree with a degree in business administration.
