The Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena ( Arabic صالة علي بن حمد العطية, DMG Ṣālat ʿAlī b. Ḥamad al-ʿAṭiyya , ABHA Arena) is a multi-purpose hall in the Al Sadd district of the Qatari capital Doha . The arena offers 7,700 seats.

history

The event hall was designed by Yasser Al Khalil (James Cubitt and Partners). The construction management will be carried out by ASTAD Project Management and the construction work will be carried out by Aktor , which has already built the Olympic sports facilities in Athens. The construction is divided into three construction phases - the sports hall, a television building and a cooling tower. The total area of the building is 52,185 m², of which the sports hall takes up 16,000 m².

The construction of the hall roof consists of 2,300 tons of steel and is to be fully equipped with photovoltaic modules. The modules can achieve an output of 250 kWp and save 150 tons of CO 2 .

use

The hall with its 7,700 seats was primarily built as the venue for the 2015 men's handball world championship in Qatar and, after this, is intended to serve as the home ground for the handball department of the al-Sadd Sport Club . In addition to handball , it can also be used for badminton , boxing , basketball , volleyball , ice hockey , figure skating or rhythmic gymnastics . The hall can be converted into an ice hockey arena in 48 hours. In addition to the sports arena, there are also two training halls, weight rooms and restaurants in the entire building. The 2015 World Boxing Championships will take place in the hall in October . There is a parking garage under the sports hall.
