Sara Mabel Gambetta (born February 18, 1993 in Lauterbach , Hesse ) is a German athlete . She was initially a heptathlete before specializing in the shot put .

career path

At the end of 2010, Gambetta went from TSG Schlitz to LG Eintracht Frankfurt in order to better coordinate school and sport, for which she moved to the sports boarding school in Frankfurt and attended the Carl von Weinberg School , an elite sports school . Gambetta is a sports soldier and has been a psychology student since autumn 2013 . In September 2013, the corporal was presented with the certificate of appointment as a temporary soldier . She studies at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg .

Athletic career

Even as a teenager, Gambetta was able to show notable successes. Almost 18 years old, she was vice-European and vice-world champion in the heptathlon among the juniors, but was then plagued by injuries.

In 2013 she finally turned away from heptathlon and the shot put after she wanted to qualify for the U23 European Championships in the summer , but had to end the competition early again at the all-around meeting in Ratingen due to injury.

In 2016 Gambetta improved her personal best in the shot put on May 21 at the Halle Throwing Days in Halle (Saale) by almost half a meter to 17.72 m, thus fulfilling the norm for participation in the European Championships in Amsterdam . A little later, she improved and on May 31, 2016 at the Volksbank meeting in Osterode , she was the first German shot putter to reach the standard for the Olympic Games in Rio with 17.84 m . At the German Championships Gambetta came in 3rd place. With a further increase in her best performance, she reached 7th place at the European Championships in Amsterdam with 17.95 m. At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she was eliminated from the qualification with a width of 17.24 m

2017 Gambetta was in northern France Lille team European champion , the shot put she finished 4th. Gambetta won the championship title at the German Championships in Erfurt. In mid-July she was nominated by the Allgemeine Deutsche Hochschulsportverband (adh) for the Summer Universiade in Taipei , where she took 5th place.

Gambetta belongs to the B-team of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

Club affiliations

Gambetta started for SV Halle on January 1, 2018 . Before that she started for the SC DHfK Leipzig on January 1st, 2015 . Before that, Gambetta was with the Halle Athletics Friends , which she joined in mid-2013 from LG Eintracht Frankfurt . She moved there from TSG Schlitz on January 1, 2011 .

Personal best

In 2016, Gambetta hit 17.72 m on May 21 at the Halle Werfertage in Halle (Saale) and improved to 17.84 m on May 31 at the Volksbank meeting in Osterode . She hit 17.95 m on July 7 at the European Championships in Amsterdam . In 2017 she balanced the ball to 18.14 m at the SoleCup in Schönebeck on June 2, 2017 and screwed her best on July 15 at the castle meeting in Gotha to 18.46 m.
