Renate Boy (born Garisch-Culmberger ; born January 24, 1939 in Pillau , East Prussia ) is a former German athlete and Olympic medalist who was one of the world's best shot putters in the 1960s, starting for the GDR .

Life

She became vice European champion in 1962 . Her greatest success is the silver medal at the 1964 Olympic Games , where she competed in the all-German team.

After the birth of two children, she made a successful comeback in 1967 and 1968, but without medal success at international highlights. Garisch-Culmberger started for SC Empor Rostock and initially trained with Emil Hirschfeld , the first 16-meter pusher and Olympic third party from 1928. Later she was looked after by Karl-Heinz Bauersfeld .

In her active days she was 1.76 m tall and weighed 108 kg. In the documents on doping in the GDR that became public after the reunification , the name of Boy was also found among the doped athletes. After her sports career, she worked as a shift manager in the Rostock fish combine .
