Karl-Heinz Bauersfeld

Karl-Heinz Bauersfeld (born August 2, 1927 - August 31, 2016 ) was a German sports scientist , university professor and throwing trainer in athletics .

Life

Bauersfeld studied at the German University of Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig , and in his diploma thesis, which he accepted in 1952, he dealt with the subject of "About the teaching of athletics among young people". He was one of the first DHfK graduates and had received a Wilhelm Pieck scholarship after the first year of study.

From 1974 to 1985 he was professor for theory and methodology of athletics at the German University of Physical Culture, from 1986 professor for theory and methodology of training at the same institution. In 1984 he was awarded the " Honored University Lecturer of the GDR ". From 1977 to 1990 he was also Vice Rector for Science Development. He held the latter two offices until the DHfK was dissolved in 1990 after reunification.

From 1990 to 1996 Bauersfeld was chairman of the club SC DHfK Leipzig and from 1990 to 1992 vice-president of the State Sports Association of Saxony . He is credited with having played a key role in “maintaining and realigning” the SC DHfK after the fall of the Wall. After his tenure as chairman, he became honorary president of the association.

As a trainer, he supervised athletes in the athletics disciplines of the shot put , discus throw , javelin throw and hammer throw and led them to medal successes in international competitions such as the Olympic Games . He trained alongside others Johanna Lüttge , Margitta Gummel , Doris Müller-Lorenz , Irene Schuch-Grieser , Ingrid Lotz-Eichmann , Karin Illgen , Marion Gräfe-Lüttge , Manfred Grieser , Klaus Frost, Manfred Losch and Martin Lotz . In 1968 Gummel won the gold medal in the shot put at the Games in Mexico under his direction.

In 1979, Bauersfeld published the textbook "Fundamentals of Athletics" as the leader of an authors' collective, which later appeared in further editions and is considered the standard work in athletics theory.
