Karin Illgen (born April 7, 1941 in Greifswald ) is a German athlete and Olympic participant who - starting for the GDR - won the bronze medal in the discus throw at the European Championships in 1969 (48.86 - 57.54 - 58.48 - 57.10 - 58.12 - 58.66 m ). At the Olympic Games in 1968 , she finished tenth (50.40 - invalid - 52.18 m ). At the European Championships in 1971 , she was eliminated in qualification. Karin Illgen belonged to the SC DHfK Leipzig . During her competition time she was 1.81 m tall and 83 kg.

Karin Illgen has remained connected to athletics to this day and competes for the LAZ Leipzig in the senior women W70 age group in the discus throw (1 kg) and in the shot put (3 kg).

Karin Illgen was recruited in 1975 as IMS "Katharina" by the Ministry for State Security (MfS) and worked for the ministry until 1989. From 1977 to 1981 Illgen worked in holiday surveillance as a representative and chief representative of the GDR travel agency in the People's Republic of Bulgaria.
