Peter Gratz becomes GDR champion in 1960

Peter Gratz (born July 9, 1940 ) is a former athlete from the German Democratic Republic , who was GDR champion in shot put in 1960 and 1962 .

After a sixth place in the GDR championships in 1959, Gratz won the GDR championships in 1960 with 16.88 m ahead of Fritz Kühl , but Gratz could not qualify for the all-German team at the 1960 Olympic Games , as the only GDR shot putter in Rome Fritz Kühl. In 1961 Gratz took fourth place at the GDR championships, but won the title again in 1962, where he pushed with 17.88 m exactly one meter further than two years earlier. In addition to Gratz, GDR runner-up Rudolf Langer and Dieter Urbach from West Germany also qualified for the European Championships in Belgrade in 1962 . All three reached the preliminary fight, none of the final fight of the last six athletes. Peter Gratz took eleventh place with 17.09 m. In 1964, Gratz again came second behind Rudolf Langer at the GDR championships. In 1965 Gratz came third in the hall.

Peter Gratz started for ASK Vorwärts Berlin and in 1964 he reached the longest distance of his career with 17.95 m. With a height of 1.88 m, his competition weight was 98 kg.
