Dieter Prollius (1967)

Dieter Prollius (born June 1, 1944 in Dresden ; † March 27, 2014 ibid) was a German athlete who was a successful shot putter for the GDR and SC Einheit Dresden , starting in the 1960s and early 1970s .

As the first shot putter in the GDR, he exceeded the 19-meter mark on July 1, 1967 in the preliminary round for the Club Cup in Schwerin as a 23-year-old. In a sensational series he improved the previous GDR record four times and rose to 19.32 m. His series: 18.76 m, invalid, 18.81 m, 18.90 m, 19.32 m, invalid. The old GDR record was 18.75 m, achieved by Dieter Hoffmann . Prollius also exceeded the previous record length of the FRG from 1964 of 19.09 m ( Dietrich Urbach ) for the first time.

At the XVIII. German athletics championships on July 30, 1967, he won the championship title in the shot put with 18.98 m. At the international match between CSSR and GDR in Sokolov on July 21, 1968 Dieter Hoffmann hit the European record of 20.10 m, followed by Dieter Prollius with 19.94 m.

Because of a knee injury, Dieter Prollius could not take part in the Olympic Games in Mexico (1968). Dieter Prollius achieved his best performance on June 3, 1972 in Potsdam with 20.24 m. During his playing days he was 1.96 m tall and weighed 125 kg. Dieter Prollius died on March 27, 2014 at the age of 69 in Dresden.

Private life

His wife Monika lives in Dresden. Daughter Silke was a competitive swimmer at SC Einheit Dresden. His son Maik was also a successful shot putter at SC Einheit Dresden (best distance: 19.10 m) and is married to the rower Anja Kluge (she was runner-up in the eighth world champion in 1986 and 1989).
