Josef "Sepp" Klik (born January 30, 1935 in Kottiken , Czechoslovakia ; † April 8, 2020 in Petersberg ) was a German athlete .

Life

As a native Sudeten German, after the Second World War, at the age of ten, Josef Klik came to West Germany with his parents as a displaced person and lived as a teenager in Harle and as a young adult in Niedermöllrich , two current districts of the municipality of Wabern in northern Hesse. After graduating from high school in Fritzlar in 1954, he studied mathematics and sports at the Philipps University of Marburg . He then taught mathematics and sports, first in Fritzlar , and later at the Wernher von Braun School (since 2015 Johannes Kepler School) in Neuhof, East Hesse (near Fulda) .

At the age of 17, Josef Klik successfully took part in the district championships for athletes in Kassel . The coaches Otto Schlotthauer and Karl-Heinz Loßdörfer then led him to the German championship title in the shot put at Tus Fritzlar in just two years (1954). In the jersey of KSV Hessen Kassel , Josef Klik became German champion in the discus throw (1964). At the German Athletics Championships from 1954 to 1965, he took a total of nine first places in one of the two disciplines. At the World University Games in Paris in 1957 , a precursor to the Universiade (often referred to as the Student World Games in German-speaking countries), he won the silver medal in the shot put. At the European Athletics Championships in Belgrade in 1962 , he finished 18th in the qualifying round of the discus throw. Between 1954 and 1970 he took part in a total of 26 international battles. In his only competition in the decathlon (1955) Josef Klik became German champion without prior qualification or having trained the long, high and pole vault disciplines. A shoulder injury prevented further competitions in the supreme discipline of athletics. 1978, according to other information, in 1980 he was European champion in the discus throw in the M45 age group in Viareggio, Italy .

After his athletic career in athletics, Josef Klik played volleyball in the Hessenliga as a 50-year-old , at 60 he was more interested in tennis and also kept fit with Nordic walking and dancing .

Josef Klik lived in Petersberg near Fulda , where he was the owner and managing director of a company for the production and Europe-wide distribution of food supplements from 2000 to 2015. He died on April 8, 2020 at his home in Petersberg.
