East German Athletics Championships 1986

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Heike Drechsler (right) equalized the world record over 200 meters in front of a home crowd with 21.71 seconds.

The GDR athletics championships were held for the 37th time in 1986 and took place from June 27th to 29th at the Ernst Abbe sports field in Jena .

Seven athletes each succeeded in the men and women ( Melzer (3000 m obstacle), Gauder (20 km walk), Wessig (high), Gamlin (three), Beyer (ball), Schult (discus), Freimuth (Decathlon), Bibernell (3000 m), Oschkenat (100 m hurdles), Busch (400 m hurdles), Drechsler (wide), Müller (ball), Hellmann (discus) and Felke (spear)) their titles from the previous year defend.

Heike Drechsler took care of the sporting highlights by equalizing the world record in the 200-meter run, as did the men from SC DHfK Leipzig with the GDR record for club relays over 4 x 100 meters.

On June 1, Ulrike Bruns set a new GDR record in the 10,000 meter run in Erfurt's Georgij Dimitroff Stadium .
