Uwe Freimuth

Uwe Freimuth (born September 10, 1961 in Rathenow ) is a former German track and field athlete who competed for the GDR and is now a sports scientist. With 8792 points, he held the GDR record in the decathlon .

Life

At the 1983 World Championships he scored 8,433 points (8469 points according to today's rating) and finished fourth, 45 points behind third-placed Siegfried Wentz . In July 1984 he set the GDR record in a decathlon in Potsdam. In 1986 at the European Championships in Stuttgart he was sixth with 8197 points. In Seoul at the 1988 Olympic Games , he finished 18th with 7860 points.

Uwe Freimuth was GDR decathlon champion in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1988. After the Olympic Games in 1988, he ended his active career. In total, he achieved more than 8,000 points in 24 competitions.

He started for the ASK Vorwärts Potsdam . With a height of 1.91 m, his competition weight was 92 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the reunification , the name of Freimuth was also found among the doped athletes.

In the early 1980s he studied sport at the German University of Physical Culture (DHFK) in Leipzig and later did his doctorate . After his active career, Uwe Freimuth was national coach in Malaysia and national coach in Bavaria. He was a research assistant at the sports center of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg until the end of the summer semester 2007. From October 2007 he headed the development department of the Malaysian sports institute in Kuala Lumpur . From 2007 to 2008 he developed a new online system for training analysis. From October 2009–2011, Freimuth managed a long-term project in Hanoi as sports director of the Vietnamese Athletics Association on behalf of the DOSB and the Foreign Office . Since September 2013 Freimuth has been teaching as a professor for sport and event management at the Business and Information, Technology School in Berlin and Hamburg.

His twin brother Jörg Freimuth won the 1980 Olympic bronze in the high jump . Uwe Freimuth was temporarily married to Anke Tröger , Junior European Champion 1981 in the heptathlon, with whom he has the twins Hanno and Rico Freimuth . Hanno was part of the national junior basketball team, while Rico followed in his father's footsteps as a decathlete.
