Kerstin Knabe (* 7. July 1959 in Oschatz as Kerstin Claus ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympic participant who - for the GDR starting - at the World Championships in 1983 in the silver medal in the 100-meter hurdles won.

Life

Knabe was successful over the hurdles early on. In 1973 she was three times GDR student champion, reached fourth place in 1974 in the youth competitions of friendship and in 1975 she was Spartakiadeiegerin wJB and third in the youth competitions of friendship. At the Junior European Championships in 1977, she won gold over the hurdles and with the 4 x 100 meter relay.

At the 1979 World Cup , Knabe took third place and fourth place at the Olympic Games in Moscow (12.66 s). In 1981 she was second in the European Cup and the World Cup . The following year she became European indoor champion in the 60 meter hurdles and she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Athens with a personal best of 12.54 s. At the European Indoor Championships in 1983 , she won silver.

Knabe achieved her greatest success in 1983 when she was runner- up in Helsinki . With 12.42 s she ran the fastest time of her career, but the wind support was too great. At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles she could because of the boycott not participate in the GDR. In 1986 she won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships . At the European Championships in Stuttgart, she finished fourth (12.82 s) in the same year. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , she did not reach the final.

Kerstin Knabe started for the SC DHfK Leipzig . It was discovered by Karl Schöne . From 1973 to 1976 she was trained by Karin Balzer . When she competed, she was 1.80 m tall and weighed 70 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the fall of the Wall , the name of Knabe was found among the doped athletes. She is a trained business clerk and works as a beautician.
