Youth competitions of friendship

As youth competitions of friendship regularly held competitions in the young competitive sport of the countries of the Eastern bloc were designated.

They were founded after the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 - initially under the title Olympic Hopes - by the sports directors of the socialist countries and later renamed Competitions of Friendship . From 1965 they began with international competitions for athletics and apparatus gymnastics , later all other Olympic disciplines were integrated. The competitions were organized alternately by the participating countries. The project was primarily intended for young athletes and, according to the statute, was intended to "bring the young athletes of the countries of the socialist community closer together" and "improve the athletic performance of the young athletes in the socialist countries".
