Youth competitions of friendship / football

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The youth competitions of friendship in football were held from 1967 to 1990 for the junior national teams of the associations from almost all socialist countries in Europe as well as some countries in Latin America and Asia .

history

The premiere took place in Bulgaria in 1967 and was won by the organizer. The Soviet Union is the record champion with six successes - including three titles in a row from 1977 to 1979. The host won seven editions of the friendship youth competitions. After the so-called Autumn of Nations , the tournament history ended in 1990 with a victory for the ČSFR in Romania.

The GDR hosted the event three times: in 1971 and - each in the Gera district - in 1978 and in the early summer of 1989 with coach Claus Kreul . In the first two home tournaments, the East German footballers won silver and before the fall of the Berlin Wall they won another bronze. The GDR junior selection achieved its only tournament triumph in 1983 in Cuba with the later DFV and DFB-A selection players Andreas Thom , Ulf Kirsten and Olaf Marschall in the team.
