Werschberg is a district of the municipality of Much in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Werschberg is located in the eastern part of the municipality on the border with Ruppichteroth .

Werschberg is located in the south-eastern part of the municipality of Much and has around 100 inhabitants. The place consists of two districts, which are referred to by the residents as Werschberg-Süd and Werschberg-Nord. The last-mentioned district is the former town of Siefen, which was affiliated with Werschberg in the 1950s.

history

Werschberg was first mentioned in a document in 1098. According to old traditions, a witch is said to have been up to mischief in Werschberg.

In 1901 the hamlet had 64 inhabitants. Heads of the household were Peter Heidgen, Josef Hermerath, Karl Keppler, Elisabeth Keppler, Gertrud Keppler, Joh. Peter Ludwig, Karl Josef Neu, widow Jakob Steimel, widow Peter Steimel, Peter Josef Steimel and Jakob Stöppler. With the exception of the peddler Hermerath and the bricklayer Faßbender, all were farmers .

Economy and Infrastructure

Agriculture originally dominated the place. However, from the 1950s the number of full-time farmers steadily declined. Today there is still one full-time and three part-time farmers in Werschberg.

Culture and sights

The residents of Werschberg take an active part in the harvest festival organized by the Bröltaler Erntevereins Bruchhausen - Röttgen , as well as in the Much carnival . In addition to a crossroads, there is also a privately built war memorial in Werschberg, which commemorates the residents of Werschberg, Bech, Erlen and Höfferhof who died in World War I and World War II .
