Wellerscheid is a church village in the municipality of Much in the Rhein-Sieg district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

Geographical location and description of the place

Wellerscheid is located in the Bergisches Land around 3.5 km (as the crow flies ) northeast of the central town of Much between the districts of Oberbusch and Niederwahn .

It is located in the Bergisches Land nature park at the confluence of the Dichsbach and the Wahnbach . The highest point near Wellerscheid is 383.4  m above sea level. NN on the Heckberg , located just under 3 km northwest in the Heck forest area .

The federal highway 56 leads through Wellerscheid .

history

Between 1745 and 1966, with the mention of the Bley and silver mine, the narrow Kaule in the direction of Oberdorf in Wellerscheid is proven to be mining, which employed up to 200 people at the beginning of the 20th century. The pits have now been closed.

In 1820 a private school was established in Wellerscheid. In 1883 a proper two-class school was built. In 1962 a new school was built. After the school closed in 1991, the three-group kindergarten was housed in the building.
