The Wahnbach is - together with its northwestern source stream Miebach - a 29.4 km long, northeastern or right tributary of the Sieg in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis in North Rhine-Westphalia (Germany).

course

The Wahnbach, which runs entirely in the Bergisches Land and the Bergisches Land Nature Park , rises with its north-eastern source brook of the same name, southwest of Pfaffenscheid , a western location in the Wiehler district of Drabenderhöhe . Its source is on the border between the Rhein-Sieg district and the Oberbergischer district at about 310  m above sea level. NHN . One of its sources is the 12-meter-deep fountain carved in natural stone in the vaulted cellar of the “Green Barn” museum in Drabenderhöhe.

Initially, the stream flows - along federal highway 56  - southwest to Niedermiebach . Coming from the north-west of Obermiebach , the 1.5 km long Miebach , which rises in the Heckberger Wald (Heck) around 950 m east of the Heckberg ( 383.4  m ) at an altitude of 333  m , flows into its northwestern source stream there. From its source ( 255  m ) to the mouth of the Wahnbach, the Wahnbach is 29.4 km long; without the Miebach it is only 27.9 km.

Then the Wahnbach passes or flows through south-south-west Oberbusch and Wellerscheid , where the Dichsbach joins on the right ; shortly afterwards the Müchelsbach also flows in from the right . Then he passes the Mucher districts of Oberwahn , Altenhof , Niederhof and Niederwahn , where the Thistle Depths flows to the right. The stream then reaches the core of the municipality of Much, the largest village directly on the stream. There the Gibbinghauser Bach flows from the right .

From then on, the Wahnbach passed  the Mucher districts of Loßkittel , Roßbruch , Amtsknechtswahn , Wiese and Bennrath along the national road 189 , after which it was dammed after the Altenhegersiefen merges on the left between Sommerhausen and Kreuzkapelle to the Herrenteich , the largest still water in Much. Then the brook Herchenrath and Hillesheim passes , after which the Markelsbach joins on the right.

The landscape of the Wahnbach am Oberlauf is characterized by agriculture and livestock farming.

The Wahnbach then passes some districts of the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid : Stein , after which the Steinbonnensiefen joins on the left , Scherpemich , Gutmühle , after which the Schwitzelsbach flows on the right, Oberwennerscheid , Hausermühle and Niederwennerscheid , after which the longest Wahnbach tributary joins the Wendbach ; About 1 km northwest of Gutmühle, off the creek, is Seelscheid, the northern capital of the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid.

Then the Wahnbach leaves the state road 189 east of Bruchhausen near its crossing under the federal highway 507 , after which it is dammed up to the approximately 2 km² large Wahnbach dam; Around 1 km east of its influence in the reservoir, Neunkirchen, the southern capital of the municipality of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid, lies off the creek. The reservoir, which is fed by, for example, Lütgesbach , Ingenbach , Birkenbach , Füllenbach , Ziefer Bach and Honderbach , is located in the forest-lined Bachtal, on whose unwooded ridge away from the brook, among others, Birk , Wolperath , Braschoß , Remschoß , Heisterschoß and Happerschoß lie.

After flowing through the Wahnbachtalsperre, where the Ummigsbach joins on the right, the Wahnbach flows through Seligenthal (eastern district of Siegburg ) to flow into the Rhine tributary Sieg , just under 2.1  kilometers below the dam shortly after the village and under the state road 316 there . The water overcomes the normal storage target height ( 124.1 m ) of the still water to the Wahnbach estuary  in the Sieg at around 62  m height, about 60 m of its total of around 271 m height difference.
