The place was first mentioned in 1428 as Broichuyssen .

In 1901 the hamlet had 38 inhabitants. At that time, the households of innkeeper Wilhelm Benz, farm man Peter Josef Bröhl, miller Wilhelm Jürges, blacksmith Peter Kirchner, bricklayers Heinrich and Wilhelm Lutz, mill owner JP Oberdörster, merchant Peter Pütz and Ackerer Joh. Schmitz lived here.

The Bröltaler harvest festival has been held here since 1907 and is organized by the Bruchhausen-Röttgen harvest association every first weekend in September.
