Hagen Melzer

Hagen Melzer (born June 16, 1959 in Bautzen ) is a former German athlete and Olympic participant who ( starting for the GDR until 1990 ) was one of the world's best 3,000 meter obstacle runners from the 1980s to the early 1990s .

His greatest successes are the second place at the World Athletics Championships 1987 (8: 10.32 min) and the victory at the European Athletics Championships in 1986 (8: 16.65 min).

Until 1999 he held the German record with a time of 8: 10.32 minutes over 3000 meters. Only Damian Kallabis improved this.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , he was tenth, at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , he was eliminated in the interim.

In 1986 he was awarded the Silver Patriotic Order of Merit .

Hagen Melzer started for the SC Einheit Dresden , after the reunification for the Dresdner SC , and trained with Wolfgang Grafe . When he competed, he was 1.78 m tall and weighed 63 kg. After the end of his sports career, he worked at the Dresden Sports Office.

In addition, Hagen Melzer came third in the 10,000 meter run of the GDR championships in 1989.
