Francesco Panetta

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Francesco Panetta (born January 10, 1963 in Siderno ) is a former Italian athlete .

The middle and long-distance runner made his first international appearance in 1981 in ninth place at the junior cross-country championships. He won at the World Athletics Championships in Rome in 1987 and at the European Athletics Championships in 1990 in Split, each the title in the 3000 meter obstacle course.

Panetta's strengths were actually in the 10,000 meter run, but in his time there were three stronger Italian long-distance runners (including his training partner Alberto Cova ), so he concentrated on the 3,000 meter obstacle. He was a total of ten Italian champions and was part of Giorgio Rondelli's training group in Milan, who attached great importance to group training and high training volumes. Panetta works as a track and field commentator for RAI and as a representative for the sporting goods manufacturer Diadora .
