Wilson Boit Kipketer

Wilson Boit Kipketer (born October 6, 1973 in Elgeyo-Marakwet County ) is a Kenyan obstacle and long-distance runner .

His parade route is the 3000 meter obstacle course. In this discipline he won the gold medal in 1997 at the World Athletics Championships in Athens and in the same year set a world record in 7: 59.08 minutes at the Weltklasse Zürich meeting . At the 1999 World Championships and the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, he was able to win the silver medal.

In 1998 he was fifth at the World Cross Country Championships . In the meantime he has turned to the marathon . A seventh place in the 2007 Düsseldorf Marathon in a time of 2:15:23 h was followed by 16th place in the Frankfurt Marathon in 2:13:08 h in autumn of the same year .

The 1.67 m tall and 52 kg heavy athlete comes from the Keiyo district in the Rift Valley Province and was trained in Iten at St. Patrick's. He is not related to the former 800-meter runner Wilson Kipketer , who started for Denmark.
