Christopher Koskei

Christopher Koskei (also written Kosgei , according to the passport also Christopher Cherono Kipkosgei ; born August 14, 1974 ) is a former Kenyan obstacle and long-distance runner .

In 1993 Koskei came second in the 3000 meter obstacle course at the African Championships. In 1995 he won a silver medal at the World Championships in Gothenburg . In 1999 he finally won the gold medal at the World Championships in Seville , the only one for Kenya at these World Championships. Like some other Kenyans, Koskei often competed barefoot.

In 1999 there was a cash prize of one million US dollars for the runner who would win all seven competitions of the European Golden League in the same discipline. British television tape recordings revealed that on August 11th, Koskei and his compatriot Bernard Barmasai came to an agreement , the former deliberately losing to help Barmasai win.

In 2004 Koskei came third in the Athens Marathon .

Koskei is 1.70 m tall and weighed 62 kg at competition times.
