Jerzy Chromik

Jerzy Chromik (born June 15, 1931 in Kosztowy , † October 20, 1987 in Katowice ) was a Polish athlete and world record holder.

Chromik was a mine mechanic and engineer by profession.

The long-distance runner became one of the world's best obstacle runners over the long distance in the late 1950s . Chromik was European Champion in Stockholm in 1958 .

He took part in the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 and in Rome in 1960 , but remained there without success. In the years 1955 to 1958 Chromik improved the world record three times on the 3000 meter obstacle distance (8: 41.2 min in Brno on August 31, 1955, 8: 40.2 min in Budapest on September 11, 1955 and 8:32 a.m.) , 0 min in Warsaw August 2, 1958)

The Jerzy Chromik Memorial has been held in Mysłowice every year since 1989 in his honor .
