Sabine John

Sabine John , née Sabine Möbius and divorced Sabine Paetz , (born October 16, 1957 in Döbeln ), is a former German athlete and Olympic participant who was successful in the heptathlon for the GDR .

Life

In 1978 she set a GDR pentathlon record. In 1982 John won the silver medal in the heptathlon behind her teammate Ramona Neubert and ahead of Sabine Everts ( Federal Republic of Germany ) at the European Championships in Athens. At the World Championships a year later in Rome she only had to admit defeat to Ramona Neubert and also won silver here. Third place for Anke Vater-Behmer made the triple world championship triumph of the GDR all-rounders perfect.

On May 6, 1984 she set a new world record in heptathlon in Potsdam with 6867 and 6946 respectively. 1 In 1986, the American Jackie Joyner was able to increase the world record by more than 200 points. After reunification, Sabine John's record was the German record until 1992, which Sabine Braun increased.

However , she was denied participation in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles due to the boycott of the GDR. At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul , John won the silver medal again. Olympic gold went to the American Jackie Joyner-Kersee , bronze was also secured here by Anke Vater-Behmer .

She was also very successful in the long jump . Her best jump distance was 7.12 m, achieved on May 19, 1984 in Dresden.

Sabine John started for the SC DHfK Leipzig . With a height of 1.78 m, she had a competition weight of 66 kg. In the documents on state doping in the GDR that became public after the reunification , the name of John was also found among the doped athletes.

After graduating from high school, John studied at the DHfK Leipzig and became a qualified sports teacher. She was a trainer at SC Magdeburg . From 2001 to 2003 she ran a fitness studio in the Baltic resort of Zinnowitz and then became a personal and fitness trainer in a hotel in the seaside resort of Heringsdorf.
