Diana Gansky , b. Sachse (born December 14, 1963 in Bergen / Rügen , Rostock district , GDR ), is a former German athlete and Olympic medalist who was one of the world's best discus throwers in the 1980s . Starting for the GDR, she became European champion in 1986 (under her maiden name Sachse) and in 1987 and 1988 second in the world championships and the Olympic Games.

Already at the age of 17 she was Junior European Champion in 1981, but then it took a few years to assert herself among the high-performing discus throwers of the GDR. There she was mostly in the shadow of Martina Hellmann (whom she only defeated at the European Championships in 1986). She trained for a long time with Gabriele Reinsch , the world record holder since July 1988 with 76.80 m. As of the end of the 2004 season, Diana Gansky is the only woman in the world to achieve 24 throws over 70 meters in competitions.

Diana Gansky started for the ASK Vorwärts Potsdam and trained with Lothar Hillebrand . In her active days she was 1.84 m tall and weighed 92 kg. She first studied sports science, retrained to become a pool attendant after the end of the GDR, and later became a self-employed physiotherapist. In 1989 she retired from top-class sport. She later remained active as a senior athlete and became European champion in 2002. She has a daughter.

Gansky was awarded the Silver Patriotic Order of Merit in 1986 and 1988 .
