SG Bergmann-Borsig

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bergmann-Borsig e. V. is one of the largest sports clubs in the Berlin district of Pankow .

history

Founding years

The beginnings of the club go back to 1946, when after the Second World War the sport had to be reorganized to a large extent. On April 8, 1946, handball players from the Berlin districts of Reinickendorf, Rosenthal and Wilhelmsruh founded the Wilhelmsruh player community . They found financial support from the Bergmann-Borsig energy plant , which in the early days also provided them with operating rooms for training and set up a handball court on its premises. When the sports business was reorganized into company sports associations (BSG) after the founding of the GDR , the BSG Stahl Wilhelmsruh was founded on August 24, 1950 , now under the official sponsorship of VEB Bergmann-Borsig. In 1952, after the creation of the central Motor Sports Association, the machine and vehicle construction sector was renamed to BSG Motor Wilhelmsruh .

Thanks to the economic importance of the company, the BSG quickly developed into a high-performance sports center. Further sections for the sports of tennis, hockey and football were launched in the 1950s. In addition to the tennis player Gerda Riewe, who was temporarily represented in the top group of the GDR, the handball players achieved success in the 1960s (East Berlin handball champions 1962) and the volleyball women in the 1970s (East Berlin champions 1974). The archers , who distinguished themselves both nationally and internationally, developed into the most successful section . Rosemarie Grzondziel won 17 GDR championship titles alone. In 1972 the company sports association was renamed BSG Bergmann-Borsig Berlin in order to emphasize the name of the sponsoring company .

Soccer

The football section of the BSG was founded in 1956 with 40 members. It took 19 years before the first team in 1975 could move up to the top East Berlin division, district league. In 1977 the Borsiger East Berliners became district champions and thus qualified for the second-rate GDR league . Apart from the 1979/80 season, the team that played in the 8,000-seat Kissingen Stadium was able to stay in the GDR league until 1983. This year, striker Jürgen Vüllings was the top scorer in the league season with 13 goals. After that, after a penultimate place in season B, the path to the district league had to be started again.

In the 1980/81 season, the BSG achieved their best result with an 8th place in the twelve field of league season B. The team headed by coach Eckhard Düwiger included the following players:

  • Goal: Rolf Rabenhold, Fred Losert, Hartmut Neuhaus
  • Defense: Wilfried Bruhs, Marc Gebauer, Holger Prieser, Dieter Stobernack, Thomas Spiller, Hans-Joachim Wager, Manfred Müller
  • Midfield: Hans-Joachim Samm, Ronald von Paulitz (captain), Dietmar Labes, Uwe Heine, Bernd Kohlschmidt
  • Attack: Michael Habermann, Bernd Pomplun, Gerd-Ulrich Rösler, Hans-Joachim Stache, Jürgen Vüllings, Uwe Wieland

After five years of mediocre placements in the Berlin district league, success came back in the 1988/89 season, the team was both district cup winners and district champions. Since the reserve teams of the GDR Oberliga were no longer eligible to play in the GDR League for the following season , the BSG Bergmann-Borsig was transferred to the 2nd team of the BFC Dynamo . As a newcomer, the team finished the last year of the GDR league with a remarkable 8th place in 1989/90. From this season on, the team played in the Nordend Arena in Berlin-Niederschönhausen . In March 1990, the Bergmann-Borsig soccer players set up their own business as the Bergmann-Borsig soccer club in Pankow. With the later Bundesliga players Stefan Beinlich and Matthias Breitkreutz , the PFV reached 5th place in the newly founded league of the Northeast German Football Association after the 1990/91 season. Although the two top performers Beinlich and Breitkreutz moved to the English club Aston Villa in the course of the 1991/92 season , the previous year's result could still be improved with third place. After that, however, the gradual decline began. In 1993 the 10th place and in 1994 the 14th place could be conquered, the PFV had to relegate in 1995 in the first year under the umbrella of SV Preußen Berlin as the knocked-down table of the league. As a result of economic difficulties, the association was dissolved on June 30, 1994 after bankruptcy proceedings. The soccer department joined SV Preußen Berlin, whose soccer department became independent on October 1, 1997 as Weißenseer FC .

Several Bergmann-Borsig football players played either before or later in the top league of the GDR football league:

  • Wolfgang Filohn , 1971/75 48 league games for BFC Dynamo
  • Dietmar Labes, 1970/79 113 × for BFC Dynamo
  • Hartmut Neuhaus, 1965/72 12 × for SC Leipzig and Vorwärts FrankfurtO.
  • Hans-Joachim Sammlung, 1971/72 32 × for Union Berlin
  • Bernd Schulz , 1980/90 217 × for BFC Dynamo
  • Dieter Stobernack , 1973/76 25 × for BFC Dynamo and Energie Cottbus
  • Wolfgang Wruck , 1966/73 135 × for Union Berlin

The following Bergmann-Borsig players later became Bundesliga players:

  • Christian Beeck , 79 × for Hansa Rostock and Energie Cottbus
  • Stefan Beinlich , over 280 times for Hansa Rostock, Bayer Leverkusen, Hertha BSC and Hamburger SV (1991/94 at Aston Villa)
  • Matthias Breitkreutz , 116 × for Hansa Rostock and Arminia Bielefeld (1991/94 at Aston Villa)

The two former GDR national players Bernd Schulz (3 × A national team, 14 Olympic selection games) and Wolfgang Wruck (6 × A national team, 6 Olympic selection games) ended their careers at Bergmann-Borsig.

The SG Bergmann-Borsig association

After the political and economic upheavals of 1989 , the BSG Bergmann-Borsig lost its economic base. As a result, BSG members took advantage of the new opportunity to found independent clubs , and so in November 1990 the “SG Bergmann-Borsig e. V. ". Although the VEB Bergmann-Borsig has long since gone under, the association sticks to its traditional name. Its archers are still the most successful division with Olympic medalists, world and European champions. In the fields of tennis, table tennis and bowling, the club plays a leading role at Berlin level. With almost 1,300 members, Bergmann-Borsig is the third largest sports club in the Pankow district (as of 2007).
