Marco Delonge becomes DDR champion in 1989

Marco Delonge (born June 16, 1966 in Magdeburg ) is a former athlete from the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In 1987 and 1989 he was East German champion in the long jump .

Delonge was at the Junior European Championships 1985 with 7.96 m second in the long jump behind his teammate Volker Mai , who had jumped 7.99 m. In 1986 Delonge took second place behind Ron Beer at the GDR championships , in 1987 he won the championship title with 8.18 m. In 1989 Delonge was third at the indoor championships, outdoors he jumped 8.27 m, but with a strong tailwind, and won his second title.

After a few weaker years, Delonge took second place behind Dietmar Haaf at the German indoor championships in 1994 . The DLV then nominated him for the European Indoor Championships in Paris-Bercy. There Delonge retired prematurely as 14th of the qualification.

Delonge started for SC Dynamo Berlin until 1990 , from 1991 he belonged to LAC Halensee Berlin . He jumped his best performance of 8.27 m in 1987 in Leipzig; in 1991 he reached 2.14 m in the high jump. With a height of 1.94 m, his competition weight was 80 kg. Delonge was a trained mechanical engineer and later trained as an office communications specialist.
