Volker Mai (born May 3, 1966 in Templin ) is a former German athlete who was successful in the triple jump in the 1980s and 1990s . Until 1990 he started for the GDR . On June 23, 1985, he jumped 17.50 m in Erfurt and set a junior world record at the age of 19 , which is still in place (as of August 1, 2016). His U20 indoor world record over 17.14 m from March 2, 1985 in Piraeus was broken by Frenchman Melvin Raffin on March 3, 2017 in Belgrade with 17.20 m.
