Melvin Raffin (born August 9, 1998 in Bourg-la-Reine , Île-de-France ) is a French athlete who specializes in the triple jump . With 17.20 m, he has held the junior indoor world record in his discipline since 2017.

Athletic career

Melvin Raffin first took part in national youth championships in 2014 and then also competed in international meetings. In June he failed in the elimination competitions to qualify for the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing. A year later he took part in the U18 World Championships in Cali. There he finished eleventh in the final with 14.61 m, although he remained well below his distance from the qualification. In 2016 he won the bronze medal at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz with 16.37 m.

In March 2017, Raffin competed at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade. In the final he jumped 16.82 m, which meant fifth place. In the qualification, he previously set a new indoor world record for junior riders with 17.20 m. Later in July he took part in the U20 European Championships in Grosseto. Like a year earlier at the World Championships, he also won the bronze medal in the triple jump there. With the 4 x 100 meter relay, he also finished 5th. In August, he failed at the World Championships in London with 16.18 m as 24th in the qualification.

Raffin has been trained by former triple jump world champion Teddy Tamgho and former vice European indoor champion Laurence Bily since 2015 .
