Kyle Allen (* 8. March 1996 in Scottsdale , Arizona ) is an American American football poker players at the position of quarterback . He played college football for Texas A&M University and the University of Houston . Since 2020 he has been under contract with the Washington Football Team in the National Football League (NFL).

college

After graduating from Desert Mountain High School in Scottsdale, Allen was considered one of the best quarterbacks of his year. Allen played college football from 2014 to 2017 . He first attended Texas A&M University and played there for the Texas A&M Aggies in the NCAA Division I FBS. In 2015 he lost his job as a starter to Kyler Murray and decided to move to the University of Houston . According to NCAA regulations , he had to sit out a year before he was allowed to compete for the Houston Cougars . There he was demoted to a substitute player after the third game day because of too many turnover and was hardly ever used. After graduating in December, Allen announced that he would be giving up another year of college and enrolling in the NFL Draft .

Overall, he came in the three seasons at college on 358 successful passes with 580 pass attempts and 4,283 yards and 37 thrown touchdowns .

NFL

Allen was not selected in the 2018 NFL Draft and then signed by the Carolina Panthers . He did not make it into the 53-man squad for the regular season and was initially in the practice squad . From this he was released after a few days, but on October 30th he was brought back by the Panthers. Before that, he was in the New York Jets Practice Squad . After Cam Newton , the Panthers' starting quarterback, was injured, Allen was promoted to the active squad as a backup for Taylor Heinicke before the penultimate game of the season . Since Heinicke injured himself during the game, Allen came to his first use in the NFL, in which he brought all of his four pass attempts for 38 yards of space to their destination. For the last game of the season against the New Orleans Saints , Allen was appointed starting quarterback because of injuries to the Panthers' other two quarterbacks. In the meaningless game against the Saints, which the Panthers won 33:14, Allen was able to convince. He threw two touchdown passes and scored another touchdown with a quarterback sneak .

After Newton was injured from the 3rd matchday of the 2019 season, Allen took over as starter and led the Panthers to their first win of the season with four touchdown passes. He won his first four games as a starter for the Panthers and threw no interception before he threw three interceptions in the 13:51 loss to the undefeated San Francisco 49ers . After the four wins in his first four games, Allen was only able to win one game out of the next eight and showed a mixed performance (15 interceptions, 10 touchdowns). From week 16 he was therefore replaced by the third round pick Will Grier . On March 23, 2020, the Panthers gave Allen to Washington for a five-round pick .
