NFL Draft 2018

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The NFL Draft 2018 was the 83rd selection process for new players ( Draft ) in the American Football for the season 2018 of the National Football League (NFL). The draft was held April 26-28, 2018 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas . This was the first draft to be held in an NFL stadium and the first in the state of Texas .

With Lamar Jackson selected by the Baltimore Ravens' 32nd pick , five quarterbacks were elected in the first round of the draft, which had only happened twice before ( 1983 and 1999 ). In addition, with the Safety Terrell Edmunds and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, two brothers have been selected for the first time in the first round of the same draft.

For the first time in NFL history, Shaquem Griffin was selected as a one-handed football player . Griffin, former linebacker of the University of Central Florida , was with the 141st pick by the Seattle Seahawks drafted. Shaquem Griffin will also play with his twin brother Shaquill for the Seahawks , a process that is also highly unusual in the NFL. Griffin lost his hand to an amputation as a result of the birth disease amniotic ligament syndrome .

Early selection

To be eligible, players must be at least three years out of high school. The exclusion deadline for the younger players for the draft was January 15, 2018.

Award process

Fourteen cities have entered the draft, including Dallas and Philadelphia as favorites. On October 18, 2017, it was announced that the draft would be held at AT&T Stadium in Arlington , Texas  - home of the Dallas Cowboys  .

Player selection

The order of picks in which teams can select players was published by the NFL on March 6, 2018. However, the teams still had time to swap their draft rights and picks. An exchange of draft rights is therefore also possible a few minutes before the pick. Several picks were swapped on the first day of the draft, for example the Baltimore Ravens and Tennessee Titans agreed to swap their picks - the Titans acquired the 22nd and 215th pick from the Ravens for the 25th and 125th pick .

Dissemination in the media

The draft was broadcast by many NFL media partners, including the NFL Network and ESPN . The draft was also shown on television; Fox did the broadcast on NFL Network for the first two days. This broadcast served as the prelude to Thursday Night Football, taken over by Fox for the 2018 season. ESPN also broadcast the last four rounds on ABC and planned a second broadcast of the first evening on ESPN2 (with the cast of ESPN College GameDay , which is a special edition as a preliminary report) and in Spanish on ESPN Deportes.

In Germany, the first round of the draft was broadcast by Ran on ProSieben Maxx and via livestream. The fee-based streaming service DAZN broadcast all drafts in the DACH countries and offered the original English commentary via the NFL Network.
