Hayden Randle Hurst (born August 24, 1993 in Jacksonville , Florida ) is an American retired baseball player and current American football player on the tight end position . He currently plays for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL). From 2018 to 2019 he was under contract with the Baltimore Ravens .
Early years
Hurst attended high school in his native Jacksonville. In addition to American football, he also played baseball here . Hurst was selected in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 17th round. He played for two years in the Gulf Coast League team of the franchise at rookie level, but only came to 16 appearances. He later attended the University of South Carolina . In three years for the college football team, he caught 100 passes for 1,281 yards .
NFL
Baltimore Ravens
Hurst was selected 25th in the first round by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2018 NFL Draft . In the preseason, however, he suffered an injury, so that he made his NFL debut on the fifth day of the game. On October 28, 2018, he caught his first NFL touchdown in the game against the Carolina Panthers . It was his only touchdown in his rookie season . In total, he caught 13 of the 23 passes thrown at him for 163 yards . In his sophomore season, he caught 30 passes for 389 yards and two touchdowns. However, he remained the Ravens' third tight end behind Mark Andrews and Nick Boyle .
Atlanta Falcons
For the 2020 season , he was traded to the Atlanta Falcons on March 18, 2020 along with a fourth-round pick for a second and fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft .
