The Boise State University (BSU) is a state university in Boise in the US state of Idaho . With 23,886 students (2016) it is the largest university in Idaho.

history

The college was founded in 1932 as Boise Junior College by the Episcopal Church . The university separated from the church as early as 1934. In 1965 about 5,000 students were enrolled and in 1969 the university was incorporated into the state higher education system. This also changed its name to Boise State College . In 1974 the university was given its current name Boise State University. The current president of the university is Robert Kustra.

As usual at US universities, the university is divided into so-called colleges, which correspond to a faculty:

The campus is located on the Boise River across from downtown Boise at an elevation of 823 m above sea level. In May 2017, a new "Center for the Fine Arts" opened for $ 42 million.

The Broncos football stadium ( Albertsons Stadium ) is also famous on campus due to its blue playing field (Blue Turf).

Sports

Boise State University's sports team is the Broncos. At the beginning of the 2011/2012 season, the university switched from the Western Athletic Conference to the Mountain West Conference with almost all sports. The wrestling teams are members of the Pacific-12 Conference, the gymnasts are independent. With its extensive and successful sports programs, the BSU is listed as a Division I school within the NCAA.
