University of Northern Iowa
The University of Northern Iowa ( UNI ) is a state university located in Cedar Falls . In the spring of 2005 there were 12,500 students enrolled at the university. The university's motto is Students First .
history
In 1876 the university was founded as the Iowa State Normal School . In 1909 it was renamed Iowa State Teachers College . It carried this name until 1961. In that year, State College of Iowa was chosen as the new name . The university has had its current name since 1967.
Sports
The UNI sports teams call themselves the Panthers . The university is a member of the Gateway Football Conference and the Missouri Valley Conference for basketball.
