Saquon Barkley (born February 9, 1997 in the Bronx , New York ) is an American football player who plays running back . He plays for the New York Giants in the National Football League (NFL).

college

Penn State (2015-2017)

Saquon Barkley played as a running back at Pennsylvania State University for the Penn State Nittany Lions for three years . Barkley made his breakthrough with the "Nittany Lions" in his second season. He ran 1,496 yards and scored a total of 22 touchdowns , including 4 through the air. In his last season at college, 2017, he was able to confirm his outstanding performance with 1,271 yards and 21 touchdowns. Even if he caught one less touchdown, Barkley was able to increase his captured yards from 402 to 632 yards. Barkley has been named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year for his past two years at Penn State . He was also elected Consenus All-American in 2017 .

Draft

Saquon Barkley was drafted 2nd in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. As forecast by the vast majority of experts, he was the first running back to be drafted in 2018. For some experts, Barkley was also considered a possible first overall pick , but the Cleveland Browns ultimately decided to choose a quarterback in first place with Baker Mayfield .

New York Giants

2018

Barkley signed a four-year contract for 31.2 million at the Giants dollars . Barkley made his professional debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first week of the 2018 season , he was able to score a 68-yard touchdown and run over 100 yards for his team, yet the Giants narrowly lost the game. In week 3 against the Texans , Barkley was able to celebrate his first victory in the NFL with the Giants, he contributed 82 yards through the run and a touchdown to the team success. In week 5 against the Panthers he could catch his first touchdown, a total of 4 passes for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns in this game. In the clear defeat in the 6th week against the reigning Super Bowl winner, the Philadelphia Eagles , Barkley had his best individual game to date. In just 13 runs, he ran 130 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown, and caught 9 passes for 99 yards.

After the season, Barkley was named Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year . He also won the by the Associated Press awarded NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award .
