Rayne Dakota "Dak" Prescott (born on 29. July 1993 in Sulfur , Louisiana is) a US American football player at the position of quarterback . He played college football for Mississippi State University . In the 2016 NFL Draft , he was selected as the 135th player by the Dallas Cowboys and has been active for them in the National Football League (NFL) ever since .
Early years
family
Prescott is the youngest of Nathaniel and Peggy Prescott's three children. He has four siblings in total, as his father brought an older brother into the marriage. His mother Peggy died of colon cancer in November 2013. Dak's brother, Jace Prescott died on April 23, 2020 at the age of 31.
High school
Prescott attended Haughton High School in Haughton , Louisiana , where he threw as a senior for 2,860 yards and 39 touchdowns and also ran for 951 yards and 17 touchdowns.
college
Prescott played for the Mississippi State Bulldogs from 2011 to 2015 , where he was starting quarterback from 2013 to 2015 . During this time he set numerous school records, including for space gain (11,985), career touchdowns (114), yards in passing game (9,376), thrown touchdowns (70) and passing rate (62.78%).
NFL
In the 2016 NFL Draft , Prescott was selected in the fourth round by the Dallas Cowboys . In the preseason he fought with Jameill Showers for the place behind starter Tony Romo . By strong performances in the preparation games Prescott prevailed and was appointed after the vertebral body fracture suffered by Romo in the game against the Seattle Seahawks until his return to starting quarterback. Thus, he celebrated his professional debut on the first day of the 2016 season against the New York Giants . In the 19:20 home defeat, he brought 25 passes for 227 yards to the teammate. On October 16, 2016, in a game against the Green Bay Packers , he broke Tom Brady's record for the most pass attempts without interception at the beginning of an NFL career (176 attempts). This was also a new record for rookies - here he broke Carson Wentz's record , which he had also set at the beginning of the 2016 season. In the game against the Green Bay Packers, the Safety Morgan Burnett intercepted the ball in the 177th attempt.
Prescott was elected to the Pro Bowl in his rookie season . He was also named AP Offensive Rookie of the Year and Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Year .
