In 2011 he moved to the University of Wisconsin – Madison and played there for the Wisconsin Badgers , with whom he also won the Big Ten Conference . Russell Wilson was selected as the 75th player in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks in the 3rd round.

NFL

After a good preseason from Wilson, he was surprisingly named starting quarterback and played his first NFL game on September 9, 2012 with the Arizona Cardinals . In his first season, Wilson completed all 16 season games. In addition, his team was able to qualify for the play-offs , but was eliminated in the Divisional Round against the Atlanta Falcons . In the vote for the NFL Rookie of the Year, his strong performance brought him to third behind quarterbacks Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins and Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts . In his second season, Russell Wilson was able to expand his achievements and developed to the leader of the team. The Seattle Seahawks were able to reach the play-offs again this year with a record of 13 wins and only three defeats in the regular season . In the play-offs of the 2013 season , Wilson was able to celebrate the Super Bowl XLVIII with a 23:17 win in the NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers . There the Seattle Seahawks won 43: 8 against the Denver Broncos and thus the Super Bowl for the first time. Russell Wilson contributed 2 touchdown passes himself.

In the 2014 season, Wilson secured with the Seahawks, with a record of 12 wins and four losses and the associated first place in the seeding list, back home play in the play-offs. After the Carolina Panthers and Green Bay Packers were beaten at CenturyLink Field , they moved back to the Super Bowl . In the final seconds of the game against the New England Patriots , Malcolm Butler intercepted a pass from Wilson to Ricardo Lockette, who was running into the opposing end zone , and thus prevented the successful title defense.

After throwing ten touchdowns and seven interceptions in the first nine games of the 2015 season, he got 19 touchdowns with no turnover in the next five games . This makes him the only quarterback in NFL history to throw at least three touchdowns in five games in a row. On the twelfth day of play, Wilson set a new personal best in the 39-30 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on his 27th birthday when he threw five touchdown passes and 345 yards. With seven wins in the last eight games, he managed to get into the play-offs with the Seahawks in his fourth NFL season. At the end of the regular season, Wilson Seahawks set franchise records for yards thrown (4,024), touchdowns thrown (34) and best quarterback rating in a season (110.1). This made him the first Seahawks quarterback to break the 4,000 yard mark and he had the best quarterback rating in the league. This earned him his third Pro Bowl calling.

The 2017 season was a successful one for Wilson, as he led the NFL with 34 touchdown passes and was only the fifth quarterback since 1970 to lead his team in yards run. Due to weaknesses in other positions, the Seahawks missed the play-offs for the first time since Wilson's arrival.

Wilson maintained his level of play in the 2018 and 2019 seasons and threw a total of 66 touchdowns with only 12 interceptions in both years. In 2019 he was also considered a candidate for the MVP Award, but could not win it.
