Theodore Edmond "Teddy" Bridgewater II (born November 10, 1992 in Miami ) is an American American football player who plays on the position of quarterback . He currently plays for the Carolina Panthers in the National Football League (NFL).

Career

High school and college

Bridgewater attended Miami Northwestern High School and began playing football there. In 2011 he took part in the US Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio , a selection game for high school footballers. In the same year he began his college career for the Louisville Cardinals, the team from the University of Louisville from Kentucky . He finished his freshmen year with 14 touchdown passes at 12 interceptions and a pass rate of 64.5% for 2,129 yards. He was named Rookie of the Year in the Big East Conference . His second season for the Cardinals resulted in winning the Big East Conference and improving his stats with 25 touchdown passes in seven interceptions and 69% pass rate for 3,452 yards. In 2013, the Cardinals played for Bridgewater in the Sugar Bowl as underdogs against the Florida Gators, which they won with two touchdown passes and 266 yards thrown by their quarterback. Bridgewater was named the game's Most Valuable Player . By the end of the season he was able to improve his statistics and threw a total of 31 touchdown passes in four interceptions with a pass accuracy of 71% for 3,970 yards.

Draft

In the 2014 NFL Draft , Teddy Bridgewater was selected as the 32nd and final first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings, who exchanged a second and a fourth-round pick for the Seattle Seahawks . He signed a four-year deal that was worth $ 6.85 million and included an additional $ 3.3 million bonus for his signature.

2014

The 2014 season began Bridgewater as a backup quarterback behind Matt Cassel and most Christian Ponder on the bench of the Vikings. On September 21, 2014, he made his debut for the injured Cassel against the New Orleans Saints , throwing passes for 150 yards in that game. After Cassel was put on the Injured Reserve List for the remainder of the season , Bridgewater was named starting quarterback . A week after his debut, he was in the starting line-up of the Vikings against the Atlanta Falcons for the first time . In addition to 317 yards in the passing game , he managed a touchdown in the running game , his first in the NFL. He then had to pause a game due to injury before he made his comeback against the Detroit Lions . In that game he took eight sacks . Against the Buffalo Bills Bridgewater made his first touchdown pass to Cordarrelle Patterson .

Bridgewater finished his rookie season with 259 mounted balls 402 at ball tests and managed thereby 2,919 yards and 14 touchdowns . After the season he was voted Rookie of the Year .

2015

The 2015 season ended Bridgewater with 3,231 yards and 14 touchdowns on 292 of 447 attempted passes. He also ran 192 yards and 3 touchdowns on 44 running plays . In addition to 9 interceptions , 8 fumbles passed him , three of which resulted in direct turnover through the opposing defense .

2016

During the training camp in August 2016, Bridgewater injured his knee so badly that he was injured for the entire 2016 season and spent on the injured reserve list .

2017

Bridgewater also missed the first half of the 2017 season due to his injury in August 2016. After successful rehabilitation, however, he was added to the active squad again on matchday 10 and then acted as backup quarterback behind Case Keenum .

2018

After the Vikings did not renew the contract with Bridgewater, he signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets . Shortly before the start of the season, Bridgewater was exchanged along with a six-round pick for a third-round pick to the New Orleans Saints . There he was the backup for Drew Brees and played in the meaningless last game of the regular season as a starter.

2019

On March 14, 2019, Bridgewater signed another one-year contract in New Orleans. After Brees injured his thumb and could not play for several weeks, Bridgewater was appointed starting quarterback for the Saints from week 3. He was able to win all five games, took 67.7% of his passes to the target and threw nine touchdowns on two interceptions before Brees returned after his recovery.

2020

On March 17, 2020, Bridgewater agreed on a three-year contract with the Carolina Panthers that is said to be worth $ 63 million.
