The 2006 NFL season was the 87th season of American football in the National Football League (NFL).

The season began with the Pittsburgh Steelers game against the Miami Dolphins. The Steelers won the NFL Kickoff Game 28:17.

The Super Bowl XLI won the Indianapolis Colts against the Chicago Bears with 29:17 on February 4, 2007 at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens (Florida).

The collective bargain agreement between the player and the team owner was extended to 2012.

The official game ball from the manufacturer Wilson was again named "The Duke" after the former team owner of the New York Giants, Wellington Mara .
