The 1945 NFL season was the National Football League's 26th season . The Cleveland Rams emerged as the winner of this season .

Due to the lack of players through World War II, the Brooklyn Tigers and Boston Yanks merged. Since the team owner of the Tigers intended to play in the newly established All-America Football Conference , the franchise was canceled after the end of the season. Most of the Tigers' players were taken over by the Yanks.

Rule changes

  • The hashmarks were moved closer to the center so that they were now 20 yards out of touch.
  • If a player extends his hands through the legs of the center , this player must also be the recipient of the snap, otherwise this is a false start .
  • A snap that was not caught was now a regular fumble .
  • If a punted ball crosses the line of scrimmage it can be recovered by the kicking team after touching an opponent .
