NFL Championship Game

The Championship Game took place on December 19, 1948 in Shibe Park , Philadelphia. Despite a blizzard , the winners of the two divisions clashed. 28,864 spectators saw the game. Due to the bad weather, both teams had problems scoring. It was only at the beginning of the fourth quarter that Steve Van Buren was able to score for the Eagles for the first time by running a touchdown. Together with the extra point from Cliff Patton , this also led to the 7-0 final score and the first title of the Philadelphia Eagles. Also due to the weather conditions, eight referees were used for the championship game instead of the five at that time, by using the three substitute referees with an improvised distribution of tasks even without a failure.
