The 1986 NFL season was the 67th season in American football in the National Football League (NFL). The regular season began on September 7, 1986 and ended on December 22, 1986. The season ended with the Pro Bowl on February 1, 1987 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu , Hawaii .

For the first time, a system for reviewing decisions through video recordings was introduced. However, there was no time limit for viewing the video recordings, so there were longer game breaks.

(*) Note: Two teams from the same division were not allowed to play against each other in the divisional play-offs. Otherwise the New York Giants would have played against the Washington Redskins. Since both come from NFC East , however, this was not possible.

Super Bowl XXI

The Super Bowl XXI found on 25 January 1987 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California instead. In the finals, the Denver Broncos met the New York Giants .
