The 1951 NFL season was the 32nd season of the National Football League . The Los Angeles Rams emerged as the winner of this season .

Prior to the start of the season, the Baltimore Colts franchise was returned to the NFL for financial reasons.

Rule changes

  • Tackle-eligible plays were banned. Offensive linemen were therefore completely forbidden to catch a forward pass.

NFL Championship Game

The 1951 NFL Championship Game took place on December 23, 1951 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles , California . The winners of the Eastern and Western divisions competed against each other. For the first time, the championship game was televised nationwide. The DuMont Network secured the rights for $ 75,000.
