The 1962 NFL season was the 43rd season of the National Football League (NFL), which at the time, along with the American Football League (AFL), was the top football league in the United States . The regular season lasted from September 15th to December 16th.

NFL champions were the Green Bay Packers , who defended their title on December 30th in the NFL Championship Game with a 16: 7 win over the New York Giants .

Regular season

In the west, like last season , the Green Bay Packers prevailed over the Detroit Lions. With three game days before the end, the up to then undefeated Packers at the Lions had the chance to break away from the game. The Packers could not use the chance, so that the Lions in turn came up to one victory on the Packers and kept the race for the championship open until the end. In the east, the Washington Redskins first led the Conference and were the undefeated front-runners until the sixth game day. After that, however, the Redskins could only win one game and had to let the New York Giants go, who were already the winners two game days before the end.

Post season

In the NFL Championship Game, the New York Giants and the Green Bay Packers met on December 30, 1962, as in the previous year, with the difference that the Giants were hosts. The Packers were able to successfully defend their title with a 16: 7 win at Yankee Stadium. Linebacker Ray Nitschke was chosen as the MVP of the game, who contributed significantly to the victory with a defended pass and two conquered fumbles , each leading to points.
