The 1997 NFL season was the 78th season of American football in the National Football League (NFL). The regular season began on August 31, 1997 and ended on December 22, 1997.

Before the start of the game season, the Houston Oilers moved to Nashville and named themselves Tennessee Oilers. In the 1997 season they played at the Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium in Memphis .

The season ended with the Pro Bowl on February 1, 1998 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu , Hawaii .
