The Lambeau Field is an American football - stadium and is located in the US city of Green Bay in the state of Wisconsin . The facility is the home of the NFL team Green Bay Packers . It replaced the City Stadium from 1925. The sports facility currently holds 81,441 spectators. In the vicinity of the stadium are the multi-purpose arenas Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena (opened in 1958) and the Resch Center from 2002.

history

The Packers' venue was named City Stadium in 1957 by Geo for $ 960,000. M. Hougard & Sons built. At that time it held 32,500 spectators. To differentiate it from the old City Stadium , it was also known as the New City Stadium . The first game took place on September 29, 1957, Green Bay won 21:17 against the Chicago Bears . In memory of the late Curly Lambeau (1898-1965), the first head coach of the Packers, the stadium was renamed on August 3, 1965 in Lambeau Field .

First extension

The stadium was expanded in several steps from 38,669 to 50,852 spectator seats between 1961 and 1965.

Expansion from 2013 to 2015

In the decades that followed, the stadium was expanded in several stages, primarily with box seats. In addition to the previously announced renewal of the public address system , the stadium was in both the northern and southern end zone a new HD - Video Wall . The entrance area in the north has also been changed and, among other things, has been given a viewing tower with a corresponding platform for visitors.

In 2013, the third step was the expansion of 7,641 seats in four rows to 80,735 seats. This made Lambeau Field the third largest stadium in the NFL . As of November 2014, the official capacity is 81,435 spectators.

As a further project of the renovation between 2013 and 2015, the atrium of the stadium will be renovated for 140.5 million US dollars.

Trivia

  • At the home game against the Chicago Bears on December 15, 2019, Lambeau Field was sold out for the 350th time in a row. This means that every home game (including the games in Milwaukee ) of the Packers since 1960 has been sold out.
  • The 58th NFL season has been played at Lambeau Field since 1957. No stadium is home to the National Football League any longer.
  • Over 110,000 fans are currently waiting for a season ticket for the Green Bay Packers' home games . Only 119 of them received an annual ticket for the 2012 season via the waiting list. So it would take about 955 years to get a season ticket on the waiting list.
  • The Denver Broncos have never won there in the regular season since the stadium was founded (0: 4).
  • On September 3, 2016, the first Division I college football game took place at Lambeau Field. The Wisconsin Badgers defeated the highly favorite LSU Tigers 16:14. The Green Bay Packers had already played twelve games in the past at Camp Randall Stadium , the stadium of the University of Wisconsin – Madison .
