The SoFi Stadium (previously also known as Inglewood stage and as a City of Champions Stadium is known) is a building under construction American football - stadium in the US city of Inglewood in Los Angeles County , State of California . The stadium will be the new home of the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers from the National Football League (NFL) and is expected to be completed by the 2020 season . The roof covering is made of ethylene-tetrafluoroethylene copolymer (ETFE), a plastic that is often used in modern stadiums, such as the Allianz Arena in Munich , with a low weight and high light permeability.

The total cost of the stadium complex is estimated at around five billion US dollars . This will make the SoFi Stadium the most expensive stadium in the world. It will be entirely privately financed and the stadium will have 70,240 seats. For example, the entire complex will be 3½ times the size of Disneyland and twice the size of Vatican City .

history

On January 12, 2016, the NFL team owners approved the return of the Rams from St. Louis to Los Angeles by 30-2 votes. The move was linked to the construction of a new stadium. The architecture firm HKS, Inc. was entrusted with the design of the facility. In July 2016 it was announced that the two major construction companies AECOM and Turner Construction had been selected to build the new arena. The first sod for the construction project on the former racecourse Hollywood Park Racetrack was held on 17 November 2016th

The NFL awarded the Super Bowl LV to the city of Los Angeles with the new stadium on May 24, 2016 in Charlotte .

In mid-May 2017, the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams announced that after very heavy rainfall and other environmental influences, the opening of the new stadium would have to be postponed to 2020.

Due to the delays in the completion of the new stadium, it was decided on May 23, 2017 to award the Super Bowl LV to Tampa in the Raymond James Stadium and instead the Super Bowl LVI in the following year, i. H. 2022, to be held in Inglewood.

On July 31, 2017, the International Olympic Committee announced that the 2028 Olympic Games will be held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium.

On September 15, 2019, it was announced that SoFi ( Social Finance, Inc. , a personal finance company) will become the name sponsor of the stadium, which will therefore be renamed SoFi Stadium .
