The 2028 Olympic Games (officially the XXXIV Olympiad Games ) are scheduled to take place in the US city of Los Angeles from July 20 to August 6, 2028 . The city will host the event for the third time since 1932 and 1984 .
Candidate cities
There was no competition between different cities for the Olympic Games in 2028. There were some considerations from some cities, for example Vienna , but the majority of the Viennese population rejected this in a referendum. Thus, the IOC now had the idea that Los Angeles and Paris , the two remaining candidate cities for 2024 , agree on which city should host the games of 2024 and which those of 2028. On July 31, 2017, it was announced that the 2024 games would take place in Paris and the 2028 in Los Angeles. In return, the IOC will provide the Los Angeles Organizing Committee with $ 1.8 billion in funding for youth programs in the city. The IOC approved the award to Paris and Los Angeles on the General Assembly on 13 September 2017 Lima ( Peru ).
acceptance
After the final award by the IOC, 78 percent of the residents of Los Angeles are said to be looking forward to the third Olympic Games in their city after the 1932 and 1984 Games, whereby the high level of approval stems from the fact that many of the problems of earlier Olympic cities were not given. as it is a privately funded event and there is no dispute over public money. The sports facilities are fully operational before and after the games.
