The Microsoft Theater (previously Nokia Theater LA Live ) is a music and theater venue in the LALive downtown entertainment complex of Los Angeles , California . It is sponsored by the US software company Microsoft . The auditorium seats 7,100 and has one of the largest indoor stages in the United States .
history
The Microsoft Theater (originally Nokia Theater) was developed by ELS Architecture and Urban Design in Berkeley , California, on behalf of Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) in 2002. It opened on October 18, 2007 with concerts by the Eagles and the Dixie Chicks .
In June 2015, the previous Nokia Theater was renamed Microsoft Theater as part of the acquisition of the Nokia mobile division from Microsoft .

Awards ceremonies
The Microsoft Theater has hosted several award ceremonies. It has been the venue for the American Music Awards since 2007 and the ESPY Awards and Emmy Awards since 2008 . The Nokia Theater hosted the 2010 and 2011 MTV Video Music Awards and hosted The GRAMMY Nominations Live concerts in 2008 and 2011, which announced the Grammy Awards nominations . The Grammys were awarded in the Staples Center opposite .
The Microsoft Theater has also hosted the People's Choice Awards since 2010 and the BET Awards since 2013 .
Concerts
- On July 2, 2001, Hatsune Miku made her US debut with the concert MIKUNOPOLIS in Los Angeles as part of the Anime Expo in the Microsoft Theater . The concert was broadcast live on Nico Nico Douga .
- On December 8, 2007, John Mayer recorded the live album and the concert film Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles during his promotional tour for his third album Continuum .
- On March 28, 2009 , Prince gave three concerts that day, all of which were sold out.
- The 28th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction took place in the Microsoft Theater on April 18, 2013 .
- On June 14, 2014, the Italian composer and conductor Ennio Morricone gave a guest performance with the 200-strong Roma Sinfonietta Orchestra and Choir.
In addition, the Microsoft Theater has been used as the venue for the American Idol finale since season seven .

Nintendo uses the theater for press conferences during E3 .
