Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U are the fourth part of the Super Smash Bros. -Line. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS is the first Super Smash Bros. Part that appears on a handheld. The fighting game is being developed by Bandai Namco and Sora Inc. The retail version of the Nintendo 3DS offshoot was released in Germany on October 2, 2014, the eShop version on October 3, 2014. The Wii-U version appeared on November 28, 2014 both in stores and in the Nintendo eShop the European market.

    Gameplay

The basic gameplay is the same as in the previous series, but Masahiro Sakurai has particularly tried to balance the characters, as in earlier series offshoots some characters are clearly "better" than others. The 3DS and Wii-U versions are not identical, but contain slight differences such as: B. other stages on which there is a fight or exclusive modes (see below).

    Offline game modes

    Smash adventure

A new mode called "Smash Adventure" appears only in the Nintendo 3DS version of the game. In this mode, four players have five minutes to explore a dungeon, battle opponents, and collect power-ups that they can use to improve their fighters. As soon as the five minutes are over, all four fighters enter an arena with their new items and power-ups and compete against each other. The opponents appearing in the Smash Adventure come from various video game series. Multiple Nintendo 3DS systems and multiple copies of the game are required for multiplayer modes. This mode can only be played locally and not online.

    Classic

In the "Classic" mode there is a map on which you can choose between three routes. Each path represents a specific franchise and determines whether you fight alone or in a team against COM opponents on a stage of this franchise.

    The stadium

There are three different mini-games in the "Stadium":

    1. Multi-Smash: In this mini-game, which was also featured in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl , you have to defeat as many opponents as possible. At the beginning you can choose between a time or opponent limit. The fight is with a Mii stored on the 3DS console.
    2. Home run competition: In the home run competition, which also existed in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl , you have 10 seconds to inflict as much damage as possible on a sandbag and then inflict it with a baseball bat to strike as far away as possible.
    3. Disk bomber (new): In disk bombers there is a bomb that explodes within 10 seconds of the first hit. Similar to the sandbag, you have to inflict as much damage as possible on it and then throw it into an area with targets and blocks (similar to Angry Birds ).

    Online game modes

Both the Wii-U and Nintendo 3DS versions of Super Smash Bros. offer the opportunity to compete against other players online via the Nintendo Network . The available game modes are identical in both versions.

    banter

In the “Skirmish” online mode, a stage is randomly selected (excluding the “Omega” stage versions, which correspond to the “last station” in terms of the stage layout, i.e. offer a simple, flat fighting area without platforms). There are always four players playing against each other with a time limit of 2 minutes, with items activated. Only the victories are recorded statistically.

    Hard on hard

In "Hart auf Hart" you can play either 1 on 1 with two attempts or a four-player fight with a time limit of 2 minutes. An "Omega" stage is randomly selected, items are deactivated. In this mode, both wins and losses are recorded statistically.

    Amiibo

In addition, Nintendo announced at E3 2014 that so-called amiibo figures (similar to those in Skylanders or Disney Infinity ) can be connected to the game in order to personalize and improve the respective character. The first twelve amiibo were released along with the game on November 28, 2014. These characters can be improved and made stronger by fighting them. In addition, the game characters can be adjusted and personalized in more ways than is possible with the normal characters. The Amiibo can become stronger than other computer opponents. Playing in a team with the amiibo is also possible. The figures can also be used on third-party Wii U, e.g. B. plays with friends. On the other hand, they cannot be played on the 3DS due to the lack of an NFC chip, although an additional device is to be released for this purpose in 2015. On the New 3DS, however, this is possible without an additional device due to the built-in NFC chip.

    development

The game for the Wii U and 3DS is developed by Bandai Namco Games and Namco Bandai Studios . Nintendo justified this with the effort to produce two different games at the same time and to publish these games relatively promptly. Nintendo President Satoru Iwata announced the game in early June 2011 at the manufacturer's press conference on the E3 trade fair. However, the actual development of the title only began in March 2012. Masahiro Sakurai from Sora is the head of the project, while Masaya Kobayashi from Namco Bandai is the producer. Yoshito Higuchi is the director. Namco Bandai already has experience in the fighting game genre and will provide their best developers for this project, such as: B. the development team behind the Tekken series as well as some developers of the Soul Calibur series.
